Scholars hail China's progress in human rights protection

China has made significant progress in human rights protection, noted speakers at a seminar held in Guangzhou, the capital of China's Guangdong Province, on Tuesday.

Over 50 officials and scholars gathered to discuss the country's achievements and challenges in the sector. 

"Chinese president Xi Jinping's initiative to build a community with a shared future for mankind, is a new concept of global human rights and an important idea to solve the common governance of the world," said Wang Lin, the Dean of Institute for Human Rights at Northwest University of Politics and Law.

The speakers agreed that the undertaking of human rights protection in China had made much headway during the past five years, as China makes unremitting efforts in improving people's lives, fighting poverty, climate change, and environmental pollution.

"Such initiative, especially strengthening South-South cooperation and North-South cooperation, promoting cooperation and human rights under the framework of the United Nations sustainable development agenda, such China solution is feasible," Liu Huawen, the Executive Director of Center For Human Rights Studies in Chinese Academy of Social Science told CGTN. 

"It'll provide new development vision for China and the world," he said.
