Beijing is offering one-time subsidies to cover living expenses for migrant workers who failed to renew working contracts with their employers due to the mandatory relocation of enterprises, according to the Beijing Municipal Human Resources and Society Security Bureau. The subsidy is to help support the workers until they find their next job.
Liu Xiaojun, a section chief from the Beijing Municipal Human Resources and Society Security Bureau, announced this at a job fair in Dongcheng District on Dec. 6, addingthat Beijing is offering one-time subsidies to such migrant workers, given that they meet two conditions: Their previous employers had paid social insurance, and they did not willingly quit their jobs.
The monthly unemployment payout is 1,128 yuan (US$170.51). Those who qualify can receive this subsidy for up to 12 months. In addition, Liu said that Beijing plans to hold a series of job fairs before the Spring Festival, and employers will do their best to offer housing arrangements to migrant workers in need.
The fair, targeting migrant workers, underprivileged workers from rural areas, disabled job seekers, and unemployed college graduates, offered nearly 1,000 positions covering 45 types of work in 25 enterprises such as hotels and restaurants. There were also career coaches at the fair to help the attendees with job planning and seeking. A total of 600 job seekers attended the fair, and 59 reached preliminary agreements with potential employers.
On the same day, another winter job fair took place in Tongzhou District. More than 50 companies offered 3,476 positions to the unemployed and the underprivileged, as well as to candidates with various technical skills. Over 1,800 people took part in the fair, 531 of whom have reached preliminary agreements with potential employers. Career guides were available at the fair to offer consulting services on training and legal rights.
Tongzhou District has so far organized three job fairs this winter season. Altogether 3,979 positions have been offered by 93 enterprises and institutions, attracting over 3,500 job seekers, of which 781 people have expressed intention to sign contracts. By mid-December, Tongzhou will hold another 16 job fairs to assist unemployed workers.
