The Chinese Winter Sport Federation of the State Sport General Administration announced on Wednesday that the FIS Freestyle Skiing Aerials World Cup, and Freestyle Skiing and Snowboard Halfpipe World Cup will be held in Genting Snow Park in Chongli county of Zhangjiakou, north China’s Hebei province, which is the venue for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games.
This is the first time that Genting Snow Park will host an international competition. It will not only help the athletes familiarize themselves with the venue, but also offer a chance for the host to test its organization and management.
The Freestyle Skiing Aerials World Cup will be held from Dec. 16 to Dec. 17. The two-day event will receive 70 athletes from 13 countries. Over 100 skiers from 20 countries have already applied to compete in the Freestyle Skiing and Snowboard Halfpipe World Cup. The game, lasting from Dec.19 to Dec.22, will be the first time it is held in China.
Last December, the halfpipe skiing track in Genting Snow Park was put into operation, after work was completed to bring it up to international standards. According to the officials, the production of snow in the halfpipe skiing track has almost finished. The organizing committee also recruited architects who previously built the track for the PyeongChang Olympics, in a bid to provide the best sporting venue for athletes.
Medical assistance has also been carefully prepared in case of emergency. The construction of the track for the Freestyle Skiing Aerials World Cup will be finished and put into operation on Dec.10, 2017.
According to the officials, the Genting Snow Park will hold a series of international games over the next four years, including the 2021 World Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding Championships.
