At the Symposium, Cai Mingzhao, President of Xinhua News Agency, said that Xinhuanet, with the full support of the Agency, has evolved into a well-known comprehensive news portal at home and abroad through 20 years of development.

The past 20 years of Xinhuanet have been extraordinary, said Xu Lin, deputy head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and head of the Office of the Central Leading Group for Cyberspace Affair. He expected to see more achievements in the future.

Wu Hequan, President of the Internet Society of China, said that Xinhuanet has played a unique role and made gratifying achievements in the rise of Internet in China, successfully reflecting a development model with Chinese characteristics.

Sha Yuejia, vice president of China Mobile, said that Xinhuanet has become a technical and cultural Internet enterprise with strong innovation strength in Internet and communication industry.

China Mobile will cooperate with Xinhuanet in fields such as 5G content and application, new media technology and Internet of things, he noted.

Through 20 years of development, Xinhuanet has evolved into a comprehensive news portal, releasing around 20,000 pieces of all-media news and information 24 hours daily in Chinese, three minority ethnic languages and nine foreign languages on multiple terminals globally.

As the No. 1 news portal in China, it ranks among the top 100 websites globally.

Born in November, 1997 as a Xinhua News Agency website, Xinhuanet has grown from an institution of one server and four employees into a main communication platform of all-media news and information products created.

Serving global users in more than 200 countries and regions, Xinhuanet has become the world's most important window for Internet users to know China, with average daily page views from the desktop browsers exceeding 120 million, and reaching more than 300 million people daily via mobile terminals.

Since its debut on the Shanghai Stock Exchange in 2016, Xinhuanet has continuously pushed forward the deep integration of technology, capital, talents and media, while expanding the application of AR/VR, unmanned aerial vehicle, big data, Internet of things, artificial intelligence and other cutting-edge technology.

In 2017, Xinhuanet ranks the 17th among the "Top 100 Chinese Internet Enterprises", leading other key central news websites.

Xinhuanet has dedicated to building a communication platform of multiple terminals, and launching profound and extensive cooperation in the industry.

As a result, a strong matrix is formed with an increasingly stronger influence.

These moves not only play an important role in the deeply integrated transformation of media industry, but also set a role model for the future development of Internet industry as a whole.

In the future, Xinhuanet will focus on promoting three strategies: platform upgrading, integrated innovation and overseas expansion, so as to achieve the goal of building a first-class news website and a strong Internet cultural enterprise with international influence.

Over 100 participants, including heads of relevant departments of the central government, state-run media and key central news websites, experts, scholars and enterprise representatives attended the symposium.
