The event, known as 2017 Art Performances Interaction between SCO Young Generations, gathers together over 150 youngsters aged 12 to 15 from China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia and Uzbekistan to display each of their countries’ arts and culture through dance and music.

Organized by the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF), the art performance and exhibition lasts for five days during which young international participants will engage in a series of programs including presenting arts performances, visiting the former residence of Madame Song Ching Ling, wife of Dr. Sun Yat-sen and late-honorary president of China, and experiencing Chinese traditional culture.

In early June this year, Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a speech at the 17th Meeting of the Council Heads of State of the SCO in Astana, stressing that the SCO member states should strengthen their sense of community of shared future and jointly usher in a brighter future.

“Today's event can be seen as a concrete action of China to implement the guiding principles of the Astana meeting, to promote people-to-people exchanges among the youth of the SCO state members, and to help their people to have a better understanding of each other's cultures during China’s SCO presidency,” said Wang Jiarui, vice chairman of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and chairman of the CSCLF.

The younger generations are the future of the SCO and the world, said Lukiyantsev Dmitry, representative from the SCO Secretariat who expects more of such events to be held to boost ties among youngsters in the block.

The event has been included into the working plan of China’s SCO rotating presidency from 2017 to 2018.

This year will witness the 15th anniversary of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Charter and also the 10th anniversary of the Treaty on Long-term Good Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation.
