A highway connecting Beijing with the Xiongan New Area in neighboring Hebei Province will be built, which will help alleviate the traffic flow in the southwest of Beijing.

The construction for the Beijing section of the Beijing-Xiongan Highway will start at the Fifth Ring Road and terminate at the city boundary, covering a length of 28 kilometers.

The section will consist of two parts: one from the Fifth Ring Road to the Sixth Ring Road featuring six lanes with a maximum speed of 100 kilometers per hour, and the other from the Sixth Ring Road to the city boundary featuring eight lanes and a maximum speed of 120 kilometers per hour.

The Beijing section will build eight overpasses, with approximately four kilometers between each other. A major toll station will be set up at the northern intersection of the Sixth Ring Road and an outbound toll station will be established just north of the city boundary.

The construction of the Beijing-Xiongan Highway is among the key tasks put forward in the "13th Five-Year Plan for the Development of an Integrated Transport System in Hebei Province" unveiled by the Hebei provincial government in June this year.

The Chinese central government announced plans to establish the Xiongan New Area in April.
