The widest bridge over the Yangtze River, China's longest, is expected to be operational by the end of 2017, authorities said.

The Zhuankou Yangtze Bridge in Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province, underwent load tests on Friday. A total of 36 heavy trucks, each weighing 30 tonnes, were employed in the static test, while in the dynamic test, four such vehicles ran over the bridge simultaneously.

"The tests show that the bridge is safe for operation," said Luo Hang, the bridge's chief engineer.

The 1.51-km-long and 46-meter-wide bridge is designed to allow vehicles to run at a speed of 100 km per hour.
