Power transmission by overhead catenary system (OCS) along the whole line of Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway (HSR) was conducted successfully on Thursday.

The OCS power transmission refers to the process of converting the high voltage of local power grids along the HSR into 27.5 kV single-phase power frequency alternating current through railway traction substations, and then transmitting it to the OCS above the HSR line to provide energy for the operation of HSR trains.

Power transmission is a big test for OCS in electrified railways and the last crucial step before integrated commissioning and tests.

The traction power supply system of the HSR is designed and constructed in accordance with China's technologies and standards. Core equipment, such as OCS, substation and power microcomputer protection system, and AC/DC system, are manufactured in China.

The high-speed line, a landmark project under the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative, connects Indonesia's capital Jakarta and another major city Bandung.

With a design speed of 350 km per hour, the railway will cut the journey between Jakarta and Bandung from over three hours to around 40 minutes.
