Cui Yuying addresses development rights seminar

The International Seminar on the 30th Anniversary of the United Nations "Declaration on the Right to Development" concluded on Dec. 5 in Beijing.

Cui Yuying, vice minister of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and vice minister of China's State Council Information Office (SCIO), attended the closing ceremony of the international seminar and delivered a keynote speech.

Cui said that the Chinese government paid great attention to the seminar. Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter on Dec. 4, stressing that development is the eternal theme of human society.

"As the world's largest developing country with a population of more than 1.3 billion, China's development is the key to solving all of the country's problems, and it is also the top priority of the governance of the Communist Party of China," Xi said in the letter.

Cui said, "30 years ago, the UN General Assembly adopted the 'Declaration on the Right to Development'; 30 years later, we gather together in Beijing to commemorate it."

Cui said that the seminar impressed her in the following four areas:

Firstly, it spoke highly of the "Declaration on the Right to Development", which is significant. It is widely believed that the UN adoption of the "Declaration on the Right to Development" 30 years ago has had a positive impact on promoting healthy development for world human rights and human society.

Secondly, it acknowledged China's experience and achievements to realize its development. It is widely believed that China is a pusher and activist for the "Declaration on the Right to Development."

Thirdly, it praised China's contribution to realize joint development rights. It is widely believed that China always sticks to mutual respect, equal treatment, cooperation and joint development; China always combines the Chinese peoples' interest with that of the people of the world, and vows to build a community of shared future, all of which play a significant role for global development.

Fourthly, participants shared their opinion on realizing higher level development rights. It is widely believed that the UN should take political and humane advantages and play a role of coordination, so as to guide the world to a brighter future.
