President Xi meets Polish PM, eyes closer cooperation

Chinese President Xi Jinping on May 12 called on China and Poland to step up cooperation under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Xi made the remarks when meeting with Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydlo, who is in Beijing to attend the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, scheduled for May 14 and 15.

He said China is willing to work with Poland, "an important partner in Central and Eastern Europe and the European Union," to maintain the sound and stable development of bilateral relations. He added that they should cooperate more in sectors including infrastructure, transportation, trade, finance, environment protection and technology.

Szydlo said the Belt and Road Initiative is of great significance to global balanced and sustainable development. Poland will work with China in sectors covering investment, technology, tourism and culture under the initiative, according to the Polish prime minister.
