The Taiwan authorities have long adopted unilateral restrictions on over 2,400 product items from the mainland, damaging the interests of related industries and businesses on the mainland, a mainland spokesperson said Wednesday.

Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the remarks in response to a media query on a trade barrier investigation launched by the Ministry of Commerce against the Taiwan region.

The ministry decided to start the investigation from Wednesday, after it received an application jointly submitted by the China Chamber of Commerce of the I/E of Foodstuffs, Native Produce and Animal By-Products; the China Chamber of Commerce of Metals, Minerals & Chemicals Importers & Exporters; and the China Chamber of Commerce for the Import and Export of Textiles, Zhu said.

The findings of the investigation will be announced at an appropriate time, she added.
