Huang Kunming, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, called for better service for people's cultural and intellectual needs.
Huang made the remarks on Jan. 16 during a commendation symposium for the 7th National Outstanding Organizations Serving the Cultural Building for Farmers and Grass-roots Units.
He urged those working in the cultural sector to take a people-centered approach to promoting the scientific theory and advanced culture with the aim of serving the rural vitalization strategy and winning the battle against poverty.
Huang said grassroots cultural building contributes to galvanizing public support, and called for more and better cultural products and services to serve the public.
He also emphasized that cultural authorities at county-level governments should play their role in cultural development and foster more grassroots arts and artists that exhibit unique local characteristics and serve the local people.
