A cultural salon on tea was held on Sunday at the picturesque Howick Historical Village in New Zealand's largest city Auckland, inviting guests and local residents to immerse themselves in the richness of traditional Chinese culture while promoting dialogue and friendship between China and New Zealand.
The China Cultural Center in Auckland organized the event to use tea as a bridge to foster mutual cultural understanding. With the theme of "Tea for Harmony," the event featured a range of interactive activities including Peking Opera showcases, tea appreciation, Chinese dance and music, and Hanfu (traditional Chinese attire) experiences.
Guests from New Zealand's cultural, academic, and political circles gathered to witness the official opening. They later strolled through the scenic grounds, enjoying performances and engaging in hands-on cultural activities.
One of the highlights of the day was a series of Peking Opera excerpts performed by renowned artists from China, which drew rounds of applause from both Chinese and New Zealand audiences. The expressive singing, elaborate costumes, and refined movements captivated attendees.
Meanwhile, the Chinese tea ceremony area offered a serene space for guests to learn about various tea types, traditional making methods, and deep philosophical meanings associated with Chinese tea culture.
"It's not just about the taste," said a local visitor. "There's a whole way of life behind it."
The participants also enthusiastically tried on Hanfu and walked through the garden, taking photos and sharing their experiences online. Families also enjoyed traditional Chinese musical performances and tea appreciation.
The event also featured "Knowing Hubei" cultural and tourism photo exhibition.
