The China National Academy of Educational Sciences released a report on global trends of basic education innovation in Beijing last week.

Zoom in: The report, issued at the forum on global trends of basic education innovation, aims to interpret the latest concepts, policies and practices of global basic education, enhance educational exchanges between China and foreign countries, and promote the reform and innovation of China's basic education.

Worth noting: The report highlights eight global innovative trends in basic education and raises four proposals.

● Eight global innovative trends in basic education:

- focusing on raising digital literacy of teachers and students 

- attaching importance to cultivating innovation consciousness and ability

- actively creating a STEM educational ecosystem

- advancing vocational education

- emphasizing social and emotional learning

- thoroughly implementing interdisciplinary thematic learning

- deeply exploring assessment empowered by digital intelligence

- strategically promoting educational equity and inclusion.

● Four proposals:

First, countries worldwide should face the era of artificial intelligence and build on a community with a shared future for mankind, and cultivate global problem-solving capabilities;

Second, governments and schools should enhance students' adaptability and lifelong development skills in response to social needs; 

Third, governments at all levels should should be oriented to transformation and change so that learning opportunities are available for all; 

Fourth, all governments, institutions and schools should jointly promote exchanges and mutual learning in basic education.

"Against the backdrop of the coexistence of globalization and anti-globalization, digital and artificial intelligence technologies are constantly upgrading, and basic education is facing unprecedented challenges and opportunities. We must rethink the goals and approaches of basic education to cultivate a new generation that can solve global problems, adapt to rapidly changing social needs, be adept at using new technologies, and have multicultural vision and inclusiveness in an increasingly complex and diverse global landscape, " said Li Yongzhi, president of China National Academy of Educational Sciences.
