Starting from Jan. 8, body temperature checks will no longer be conducted on passengers at subway stations in Beijing, according to the Beijing Subway Limited and Beijing MTR Corporation Limited.

In addition, people who have fevers or are COVID-19 positive are encouraged to avoid taking public transportation.

Disinfection is conducted once per hour on all security devices, gate machines, ticketing machines, handrails, elevators, as well as public toilets on all subway lines. Public areas including station entrances and exits, platforms, and concourses are disinfected once every four hours during operation hours, according to a director at the Beijing Subway Limited.

By the end of last month, the passenger count of Beijing's rail transit recovered to 72% of the level seen before the current round of the epidemic. The passenger volume at subway lines under the Beijing Subway Limited recovered to 89% of the level before the current round of the epidemic. Data from the Beijing MTR Corporation Limited shows that the total passenger count increased nearly twofold in the second half of last month compared to the first half.

The subway authorities also pledged to ensure smooth services during the upcoming Chinese New Year travel rush.
