China is rolling out a nationwide push to stimulate consumer spending ahead of the Chinese New Year, as authorities move to strengthen domestic demand and leverage the holiday travel and shopping rush as a major growth driver.

The Ministry of Commerce says consumption has become a key engine of economic growth, with retail sales and service consumption continuing to expand. Ahead of the Spring Festival, authorities have brought together multiple ministries, local governments, airlines, railways and businesses to boost spending across food, travel, tourism, retail and entertainment.

Officials say the goal is to turn the holiday season into a nationwide consumption surge, combining policy support with large-scale promotional events.

SHENG QIUPING China's Vice Minister of Commerce "During the Spring Festival, we will roll out three major consumer support measures. These include expanding trade-in subsidies, with about 8.7 billion US dollars in national funding already allocated; launching invoice lottery programs in 50 cities with over 140 million dollars in prizes during the nine-day holiday; and working with financial institutions to offer 'Happy Shopping for the New Year' promotions across travel, accommodation, dining and tourism, to boost holiday consumption."
