China's vast northwest inspires a new generation

Since 2003, the "Go West" program has offered 540,000 young Chinese a chance to spend a year or more volunteering in the country's vast western regions, and around 55,000 participants have been recruited in Xinjiang, according to the Communist Youth League of China.
