The event, jointly held by the Chinese State Council Information Office, China International Publishing Group, the Chinese Embassy in Cuba and the Cuban Book Commission, was attended by senior government officials of both countries.

Jia Yulin, a senior official with the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), said in an address that the release of the book and the seminar itself offer a "platform" for the exchange of experience between China and Cuba.

The book contains Xi's important thoughts and ideas promoting people-centered policies, scientific development, innovation, and political ethics when he was CPC chief of China's eastern Zhejiang Province in the 2000s, said Jia.

"I hope this book will help Cuban readers better understand China and the Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era," said Jia.

Cuban Deputy Minister of Culture Fernando Leon Jacomino noted that the book reflects the commitment of a leader to his people and the aspiration to achieve unprecedented new economic, social and spiritual development for his country.

Chinese Ambassador to Cuba Chen Xi said the book is the result of "accumulated practices and theoretical innovation" of Xi, who has masterfully combined the basic thinking of Marxism with China's contemporary reality.

"The book 'Zhejiang, China: A New Vision on Development' will help Cuba and the international community know more about China's development and inspire the world with new ideas and intelligence in governance," said Chen.

The presentation of the book along with a China-Cuba seminar on governance represents an "extraordinary opportunity" to broaden Cuba's knowledge about Xi's political thinking and strengthen bilateral ties, Victor Gaute, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, told Xinhua.

"We are sure that our people will welcome this book because it shows how much work has been done in China by its president to continue moving forward on the path of socialism," he said.

First published in August 2007, the book was reprinted in November 2013, and has received positive responses both at home and abroad.
