Cooperation with ITER Organization
Since joining the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) Organization in November 2006, China has fully engaged in the activities related to ITER design, construction, operation and testing, as well as its deactivation and decommissioning. China and the other ITER participants are co-owners of the intellectual property rights generated throughout the execution of the ITER project. As of July 2020, China had undertaken 18 procurement packages, covering many key technologies of the ITER project. Hundreds of Chinese research institutes and enterprises have contributed to the project.
On July 28, 2020, the ceremony for the start of the assembly of the ITER took place at the ITER headquarters in France. In his congratulatory message, Chinese President Xi Jinping hailed the ITER project as embodying humanity's aspiration for the peaceful use of fusion energy. President Xi added that since the launch of the project, China has honored its international commitments, and Chinese entities and scientific researchers have taken on difficult tasks and collaborated closely with their international counterparts, contributing to the progress of the project.
