Main structure completed on mega hydropower project in SW China

The main structure of Wudongde hydropower station, set to be China's fourth-largest and the world's seventh-largest hydropower project, has been completed, according to its constructor.

The main structure of Wudongde hydropower station, set to be China's fourth-largest and the world's seventh-largest hydropower project, has been completed, according to its constructor.

The station, which is located on the border of Sichuan and Yunnan provinces in southwest China, will have a total installed capacity of 10.2 million kilowatts, according to the construction bureau, under the China Gezhouba Group Three Gorges Construction Engineering Co., Ltd.

The first group of electricity-generation units at the station is expected to be put into use in July.

Spanning the Jinsha River, the upper stretches of the Yangtze River, the station is a major hydropower project to promote high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
