Liu Weidong, a researcher at the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, made the remarks at a high-end forum held recently.

"In essence, the Belt and Road is a cooperation platform and network. It is an extension of the Silk Road spirit. The Silk Road is not only a trade route involving a number of fixed lines, but also a cultural symbol and cultural heritage shared by the countries along the road," said Liu.

The Belt and Road has gradually developed from a Chinese initiative into a global consensus. Liu said that the initiative represents two-way exchange instead of one-way export. Seeking co-prosperity and sharing peace on the basis of maintaining cultural diversity is the common wish of most countries.
