Xi, also Chinese president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, stressed that the major political task for the new CPC leadership was to "comprehensively implement the spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress and strive to realize the goals set by the Congress."

He made the remarks when delivering a speech at the first plenary session of the 19th CPC Central Committee, which was held on Oct. 25.

In his speech, he urged all members of the 19th CPC Central Committee to "stay true to their ideals and convictions, strengthen the sense of political responsibilities, comprehensively enhance abilities and further improve conduct."

Xi said all Party members should, in the new era, "develop strategic perspective, creative thinking, a dialectical approach to thinking and think in terms of the rule of law, and think about worst-case scenarios."

He required all Party members to ensure theory guiding practice and constantly improve abilities to uphold and develop socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era.

He stressed that all Party members should implement all deployments made by the 19th CPC National Congress in economic, political, cultural, social and ecological advancement to "finish building a moderately prosperous society in all respects as scheduled and embark on a new journey toward fully building a modern socialist country."

"Reforms in all areas should be further advanced, so as to constantly improve the level of the modernization of China's system and capacity for governance," he added.

He also urged all Party members to fully implement the vision of "making development people-centered," so as to further ensure and improve people's wellbeing, adding that new achievements should be made in ensuring people's access to childcare, education, employment, medical services, elderly care, housing, and social assistance.

Xi stressed comprehensive advancement of the "great new project of Party building" and strict governance over the Party, urging all Party members to "uphold and strengthen overall Party leadership and ensure that the Party exercises effective self-supervision and practices strict self-governance in every respect."
