Cooperation in Radiation Safety
China cooperates closely with international organizations, such as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP), the International Commission on Radiation Units and Measurements (ICRU) and the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR), in strengthening radiation safety management. China's Basic Safety Standards for Protection against Ionizing Radiation and for the Safety of Radiation Sources, a set of overarching standards in this field, specifies the principles, requirements and dose limits for radiation protection. These standards are consistent with ICRP Publication 60 and IAEA Basic Safety Standards. Since joining the UNSCEAR, China has played an active role in and made meaningful contributions to the Committee's research on major topics such as radiation-induced cancer and evaluation of radiation effects from the Fukushima nuclear accident.
