China conducted a comprehensive marine geophysical survey in waters east of its Taiwan Island from Aug. 10 to 31, the Ministry of Natural Resources said on Thursday.

The survey, carried out by the Second Institute of Oceanography under the ministry, was aimed at gaining a comprehensive understanding of the basic geological conditions and seabed structural features of waters under China's jurisdiction, and supporting the development of a digital platform for natural resources administration and territorial-spatial planning.

It collected basic data on the seabed environment, including seafloor topography, sedimentary strata, deep geological structures and geophysical fields.

The data will help China further understand the seabed geological and geophysical characteristics of this area, and provide data for geological research on seabed sedimentation and tectonic structures, as well as deep crustal structure and geodynamic evolution in waters east of Taiwan Island, according to the ministry.

The survey also provides a scientific basis for China's integrated governance of waters under its jurisdiction in the region.
