China will use technologies including artificial intelligence (AI) and big data to make public legal education more targeted and interactive over the next five years, officials said Thursday.

Under China's five-year plan for legal education and publicity from 2026 to 2030, the country will promote lifelong legal education and explore new models of targeted outreach, bringing legal education closer to people's daily work and lives.

The Ministry of Justice will draw on big data resources from government agencies, judicial bodies and internet companies to identify the legal needs and rights-related concerns of different groups of people, Xu Yunkai, director of the ministry's legal publicity and governance bureau, said at a press conference introducing the plan.

AI and other new technologies will be used to generate legal education content, deliver it to targeted audiences and enable real-time interaction, making legal education more accessible and engaging, Xu said.

Young people will be a key focus, with the plan calling for stronger legal education and a more comprehensive framework for youth legal education, said Tang Jie, an official with the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China.

Authorities will also use AI, short videos and other formats to make legal education more appealing to young people.

During the 2026-2030 period, China's cyberspace authorities will step up public education on cyberspace-related laws and make greater use of digital platforms for legal education, said Chao Baodong, an official with the Cyberspace Administration of China.

Authorities will encourage internet service providers, particularly major online platforms, to participate in legal education by establishing dedicated channels and organizing related activities.
