During the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030), China will strengthen assistance for veterans facing difficulties, expanding financial aid, medical support, employment services, and psychological counseling for them, an official said Friday.

Pei Jinjia, minister of veterans affairs, said the government would better coordinate resources, grant assistance more precisely, and broaden access to support for veterans.

"Some veterans indeed encounter difficulties in their daily lives," Pei said at a news conference held by the State Council Information Office. "We must keep their well-being in mind and provide them with genuine care and support."

He said authorities would build a broader assistance network led by the government, supported by state-owned enterprises, and open to charities, private businesses, and individuals.

The government will also step up assistance for veterans and their families facing unexpected difficulties. Veteran support associations will be encouraged to establish dedicated funds and carry out assistance programs, he said.

Support will extend beyond financial aid. Veterans who lose their jobs, suffer major illnesses, experience family emergencies, or are affected by natural disasters may receive employment assistance, medical aid, psychological counseling, and emergency relief.

Pei said particular attention will be given to elderly veterans who live alone or have lost the ability to care for themselves.

Authorities will also expand pairing programs and volunteer services, combining financial and material assistance with social support, he said.
