China will accelerate the development of application scenarios enabled by 5G, AI, robotics, industrial internet, and Beidou satellite technologies, said Yao Jun, director general of the Planning Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, at a policy briefing in Beijing on Monday.

The cultivation of these key industry application scenarios is part of the ministry's efforts to accelerate the large-scale development of emerging industries by leveraging China's massive market size, comprehensive industrial system, and diverse application scenarios, he said.

On the 5G front, efforts will be made to deepen 5G factory development across major industries and enterprises of all sizes, promote integrated and efficient solutions, and develop key application scenarios such as machine vision-based quality inspection, remote equipment control, and flexible manufacturing.

For AI, Yao said new technologies will be further integrated into every stage of manufacturing — from R&D and production to management and maintenance — to advance technological innovation and promote broader, deeper application of AI.

The depth and breadth of robotics applications will also be expanded. China will advance the use of industrial and humanoid robots in factories, prioritizing their application in specific areas such as welding, assembly, painting, and material handling. In fields like mining, civil blasting, and emergency response, the use of robotics will be promoted to improve intelligent operations under challenging and hazardous conditions.

Meanwhile, application scenarios of the industrial internet will be promoted through action plans for the integrated empowerment of the industrial internet and AI. The plan targets key industries such as steel, power, shipbuilding, and aviation, accelerating the application and promotion of the industrial internet in scenarios including design, production scheduling, dispatching, and warehousing.

In addition, application scenarios empowered by the Beidou Navigation Satellite System will also be cultivated. City-level pilot programs for Beidou's large-scale application will be advanced to foster its integration with mobile communications, inertial navigation, and high-precision vision technologies, and expand its use in new areas including smart cities, intelligent transportation, smart logistics, marine governance, and precision agriculture.
