An article by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, on maintaining self-confidence and self-reliance will be published on Tuesday.
The article by Xi, also Chinese president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, will be published in this year's 14th issue of the Qiushi Journal, a flagship magazine of the CPC Central Committee.
The article consists of excerpts from important discourses made by Xi from January 2013 to March 2024.
The article highlights that there has never been an instruction manual or ready-made solution for the Chinese people and the Chinese nation to turn to as they fought to end the great sufferings endured since the advent of modern times and have moved on toward the bright future of rejuvenation.
The Party has led the people in independently blazing the path to success over the past century, it notes, stressing that "we must remain firm in our conviction in Marxism and socialism with Chinese characteristics."
The article emphasizes that self-confidence is essential for self-reliance. "The Party's endeavors and major achievements over the past century provide the most solid foundation for strengthening our confidence in the path, theory, system and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics," it says.
Advancing Chinese modernization requires staying independent and maintaining self-reliance, notes the article, saying that "we must develop our country and our nation with our own strength, and maintain a firm grasp on the future of China's development and progress."
There will be no courage to further reform without unwavering confidence in the system, the article says.
"Continuing our reform to a deeper level involves improving our socialist system with Chinese characteristics. When we say boosting our confidence in the system, we do not mean to be complacent. Instead, we should continue to eradicate drawbacks in the system, and make it more mature and more enduring," it says.
As socialism progresses, China's institutions will surely become more mature and the strengths of China's socialist system will become more self-evident, the article adds.
