China will work to achieve the development goals on winning the battle against poverty and completing the building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects, though the annual growth target was not set for this year, a senior official said Sunday.

The country will focus on maintaining security in the six areas, in a bid to ensure the stability on the six fronts, Ning Jizhe, deputy head of National Development and Reform Commission, told a press conference held by the State Council Information Office.

The six fronts refer to employment, the financial sector, foreign trade, foreign investment, domestic investment and expectations, while the six areas refer to job security, basic living needs, operations of market entities, food and energy security, stable industrial and supply chains, and the normal functioning of primary-level governments.

Ning explained that the decision on dropping of the growth target was made as the country's development is difficult to predict amid the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Efforts will be made to further stabilize employment and ensure the poverty alleviation. More proactive fiscal policy and more flexible monetary policy will be taken to minimize the losses resulting from the epidemic, Ning added.

China will work to expand the consumption willingness and capability by domestic residents and promote investment, Ning said.

Multiple measures will be taken to help market entities resume work and resumption, especially micro, small and medium sized firms, he said.

The country will further improve the business environment and expand opening up, according to Ning.
