121 million domestic trips were made by Chinese passengers during the five-day May Day holiday, official data showed Friday.

Daily passenger trips during the holiday surpassed 24 million, 17.9 percent up from the previous five days before the holiday, Liu Xiaoming, vice minister of Transport, told a press conference.

The tourism rebound came after a relaxation of travel restrictions as China has entered the phase of regular epidemic prevention and control.

Railway passenger trips totaled 28.477 million during the holiday, 55.1 percent up month-on-month. Road trips for the holiday totaled 86.14 million, 12.4 percent up month-on-month, according to the ministry.

Meanwhile, 3.713 million waterway trips and 3.16 million air trips were made during this period, increasing 90.6 percent and 8 percent on a month-on-month basis, respectively, the ministry's data showed.

China received a total of 115 million domestic passengers and generated 47.56 billion yuan of tourism revenue during the May Day holiday, said Wang Xiaofeng, a senior official with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, also at the press conference.
