The Chinese Embassy in New Zealand has launched a "cloud" Spring Festival Gala Wednesday to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year, which falls on Feb. 12.

The Chinese Embassy has carefully designed and produced the online Spring Festival Gala, which will last from Feb. 10 to Feb. 14.

The gala includes ambassador's video blessings, art performances, Chinese dumpling making display by embassy staff, New Zealanders' art performance and blessings, Chinese Classical Music, Peking Opera and English documentaries about the 24 Solar Terms of the traditional Chinese Calendar and so on.

Chinese ambassador to New Zealand Wu Xi expressed her blessings for the Year of the Ox to all Chinese nationals in New Zealand and New Zealanders through a video.

Wu acknowledged that bilateral relations between China and New Zealand moved steadily forward against all odds, while saying that the two countries helped and encouraged each other amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The Ox is known as an explorer in Chinese culture. This spirit of exploring is well reflected in the development of China-New Zealand relations," she said.

The ambassador vowed that China is committed to maintaining good momentum in the advancement of bilateral ties.

"The Chinese market and the opportunities it creates will always be open to New Zealand. China is committed to working with New Zealand to enhance mutual trust through dialogue and exchanges, to expand mutually-beneficial and practical cooperation, to tap the great potential of rolling out the Belt and Road Initiative, and to deliver substantial benefits to our two peoples in line with the comprehensive strategic partnership," she added.
