A press tour was held Tuesday for foreign journalists at Beijing's sub-center. The tour was organized by the Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Foreign Affairs Office of Beijing Municipal Government, the Beijing Sub-center Management Committee, and the Tongzhou district government.

During the all-day visit, journalists from 16 foreign media outlets, including Agence France-Presse (AFP), Russia Today, El País, and Zaobao of Singapore learned about the sub-center's overall planning and development, its ecosystem management, and conservation and use of cultural historic relics such as the Grand Canal and the "three-temple-and-one-pagoda" complex.

Many foreign journalists in the press tour visited the sub-center for the first time. A number of them praised the beauty and proportions of the overall planning. And they said they were impressed by the details in the designs, including the underground pipeline corridor and recycling and sustainable use of rainwater of the administrative area. Many lingered in the forest park along the Grand Canal and the "city lungs" under construction, where the new buildings are springing up on the banks to enhance the look of the canal while preserving its classic charm. Green space and the seamless connection of walking track and lush green fields and trees also received acclaim from the visitors.

The event is the official unveiling of the sub-center to foreign media as well as a follow-up of the 2019 Beijing annual diplomatic reception, which took place in the sub-center last week. A symposium was held in the Exhibition Hall of Planning and Development of Sub-center, where officials briefed the journalists on matters concerning the sub-center.
