The Chinese Embassy in Ghana late Tuesday held a reception to commemorate the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

Chinese Ambassador to Ghana Cong Song outlined China's domestic progress and immense contributions to global development over the past 77 years, as the country transitioned into the second-largest economy in the world.

Cong reiterated China's continuous commitment to the international system with the United Nations at its core, advocating and practicing genuine multilateralism, global peace, and inclusive development, with a firm commitment to advancing high-level opening-up and promoting high-quality Belt and Road cooperation.

"China continuously strengthens solidarity and cooperation with other developing countries, gathering new momentum for the unity and self-reliance of the Global South, including African countries," the Ambassador highlighted.

According to him, the offer of zero-tariff market access to 53 African countries with diplomatic ties with China is guided by the principles of sincerity, real results, amity, and good faith with the right approach to justice and interests.

"China's vast domestic market creates enormous opportunity for Africa to enhance its level of industrialization," he added.

Cong commended Ghana for firmly supporting China's core interests, including the One-China principle, adding that China also actively supports Ghana's adherence to the Pan-African tradition, based on which it voted for the UN resolution promoted by Ghana, on declaring the transatlantic slave trade as the gravest crime against humanity.

Representing the Ghanaian government, Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, noted that Ghana and many other developing countries have much to learn from China's experience.

Agyeman-Rawlings lauded the three Confucius Institute campuses in Ghana for their dedication to promoting Chinese language and culture among Ghanaians, as well as the compassionate and skillful manner in which the Chinese medical teams take care of Ghanaians, demonstrating the ever-growing strong and brotherly bonds between the two countries.

"As the relationship deepens, Ghana looks forward to broadening these opportunities through greater investment and stronger links between our business communities. We believe even greater value can be added to the partnership that has served our two countries well over the years," she added.
