The Chinese Embassy in Zambia hosted a reception in Lusaka, the Zambian capital, to celebrate the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

Held on Tuesday, the event was attended by Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Han Jing, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defense of Zambia Maambo Hamaundu, along with guests across various sectors in Zambia and representatives of the local Chinese community.

In his address, Han emphasized the traditional bond of friendship between China and Zambia that has stood the test of time and deepened through shared inspiration, now entering a new chapter.

China was among the first countries to congratulate Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema on his re-election, demonstrating China's high regard for Zambia and the robust bilateral relationship, said the Chinese ambassador.

He highlighted that China is ready to work with Zambia to implement the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and to carry forward the traditional friendship for mutual benefit.

Han noted the rapid growth of the China-Zambia comprehensive strategic and cooperative partnership, with deepening practical cooperation in areas such as agriculture, energy, mining, infrastructure and the digital economy.

He pointed out that 2026 is designated as the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges, stressing that the strongest foundation of the relationship rests on connections between the people, evidenced by a tremendous increase in bilateral cultural interest.

For his part, Hamaundu commended China for its milestones and longstanding friendship, expressing Zambia's appreciation for the partnership and eagerness to deepen cooperation by attracting more Chinese investment and technology.

Hamaundu noted that China has been a close ally and development partner contributing to Zambia's significant progress, while expressing gratitude for the recent successes and benefits delivered through win-win comprehensive strategic cooperation.
