Officials and experts from China and Germany attending the "China Day" event on Tuesday during the 2020 Euro Finance Week said they hope to see more exchanges between the two countries to deepen economic and financial cooperation.

In the midst of the pandemic this year, China and Germany both advocated international cooperation, offering help to each other on the levels of governments, local communities and private individuals, according to Sun Congbin, Chinese Consul General in Frankfurt in an opening address.

During these challenging times, the economic ties between China and Germany also became stronger, with China becoming Germany's top export market for the first time in the second quarter, Sun said.

Sun stressed the importance of cooperation and opening-up, as "globalization is an objective reality and a historical trend, and the world cannot go back to a state of isolation."

Burkhard Balz, a member of the executive board of the Deutsche Bundesbank, the German central bank, also spoke about German exports to China that have increased in recent months. China provided valuable support for the German export industry in difficult times, Balz said.

Balz said he looked forward to a joint conference between the Chinese central bank and the Bundesbank, which has to be rescheduled until next year due to the pandemic. "China and Germany can still learn a lot from each other," he said.

Daniel Graewe, professor of law at Nordakademie University of Applied Sciences, pointed out that in an era of globalization, digitization, services and data economy, economic interdependence often goes beyond the realm of trade data, and a lot of topics are worth discussing among Chinese and German experts and industry representatives.

The annual "China Day" event, which took place virtually this year, attracted representatives from banks, financial and tech companies, research institutes and academia. They discussed topics including China's successful strategies in the field of mobility, data and financial services, multilateralism in the era of COVID-19, entrepreneurship and innovation in Germany and China, among other things.
