Nearly 1,000 delegates, including more than 400 diplomats from 156 countries and regions as well as representatives from leading Chinese enterprises, gathered at the China World Hotel in Beijing on Dec. 2 to enjoy a night of performances highlighting the traditional cultures of China and other nations in the world.

The 2017 Global Diplomats' Chinese Cultural Night was held to boost international communication and promote "win-win" cooperation between China and foreign countries.

The event included a forum for various countries to promote their cultures, a photography contest, an exhibition on China's intangible cultural heritage, a red carpet event and a gala dinner.

The audience witnessed a series of performances, including an incense-themed show, traditional Chinese operas, a cheongsam fashion show put on by the spouses of diplomats, and shows by cultural groups sent by foreign embassies in China.

Bayney Karran, Guyana's ambassador to China and the rotating chairman of the event's organizing committee, said in a speech addressing the gala dinner that the event promoted understanding among the different peoples of the world, thereby helping to maintain global stability, peace and development.

He added that cross-cultural partnership strengthens international security, environmental cooperation, technology exchange and resource conservation.

"Let our multiple cultures work together toward common goals in solidarity and peace," Ambassador Karran advocated.

Initiated in 2015 by LOOKWE, a Beijing-based company promoting international communication and exchange in trade, culture and tourism, the annual event has become the largest people-to-people diplomatic activity in China.

Xu Yunzu, general manager of LOOKWE and general secretary of the event's organizing committee, said the yearly gathering will carry forward the "Spirit of the Silk Road" for cooperation, inclusiveness and mutual benefit.
