Since 2015, a total of 1,032 markets and 106 logistic centers in Beijing were either relocated or upgraded, according to the Beijing Municipal Commission of Commerce.

Yan Ligang, director of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Commerce, recently said that, in 2017, Beijing relocated and upgraded 241 markets and 55 logistic centers, which took up approximately 4.38 million square meters of building area. Twelve marketplaces in the area around the Beijing Zoo, 45 marketplaces in the area of Dahongmen, and several other large markets have all gone through relocation and restoration.

Beijing embarked on a sweeping program of relocating and upgrading marketplaces in 2016. Authorities removed the old farmer's markets that fell short of the city's regulations, and replaced them with new markets with equal sizes and functions.

Yan said that, in 2018, Beijing will relocate and upgrade another 159 markets and 17 logistic centers, and strive to place them so that all Beijing residents will have access to fresh agricultural products within an hour of commute. Meanwhile, the city will continue to strengthen its cooperation with Tianjin and Hebei Province in relocating markets, developing chain businesses, securing the provision of agricultural products, and promoting coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. In addition, Beijing will make efforts to upgrade the logistics of agricultural products and build more than 500 retailers of green groceries.
