Charity program to donate stationery to B&R countries' pupils

The China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation (CFPA) announced Tuesday that they will launch a program to donate stationery to needy primary school students in the developing countries along the Belt and Road.

The program, jointly launched by the CFPA and the Alibaba Foundation, a charity initiated by four companies under the Alibaba Group, plans to send more than 200,000 "parcels of love," which contain schoolbags, basic stationery, art supplies, educational toys and living goods, in 2019, and one million in the coming three years.

To date, a total of 11 countries, including Cambodia, Pakistan, Ethiopia and Uganda, have been listed as partner countries in the program.

The CFPA first launched a domestic "parcels of love" program in 2009, benefiting over 5.9 million students in China by the end of last year.

It later partnered with the Alibaba Foundation on a pilot project that sent over 50,000 parcels overseas in 2018. The two sides decided to officially launch the international program this year.
